About
Providing students with an outstanding education since 1863.
San José High is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. We offer the prestigious IB Diploma Porgramme, a rigorous pre-university certification curriculum for academically talented students in grades 11-12, as well as the Middle Years Programme for grades 9-10. SJH also offers the IB Career Certificate Programme that specifically addresses the needs of students who wish to engage in career-related education. The IB Programme successfully provides students a framework of academic challenge, enrichment, and life skills to a truly diverse student body.
We are proud to have been the first school in Silicon Valley to offer the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program to high school students. This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program prepares students for college majors and careers through an advanced, college preparatory curriculum using the same concepts, equipment, and software employed by industry professionals. Students graduate from this program better prepared for high-level career opportunities of the 21st century.
All of our courses of study use unique rubrics aligned to the IB World and California Common Core State Standards. San José High is dedicated to providing all students a rigorous education focused on opportunities beyond graduation aligned to our district vision and mission.
Families are encouraged to learn about parent participation opportunities through school committees and school-connected organizations. If you want to visit San José High, please review our visitor guidelines.

History
San José High has served the community of San José, California for over 160 years.
Founded in 1863, San José High is the third oldest public high school in California with a culturally diverse and historically rich population of students and alumni.
Originally opened to serve the budding community of San José on South 1st Street, then moving to 7th Street before finding a home at Washington Square where it remained on what is now San José State until 1952, when we moved to our current location on Julian and 24th Street.
San José High has been an International Baccalaureate World School since 1985 and partners with our main middle school feeder school Muwekma Ohlone Middle in our Middle Years Programme.
Some of our proud alumni include notable community members including former US Congressmen Jack Z. Anderson, Don Edwards, and Mike Honda; former mayor of San José, US Congressman and US Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta; and notable names in athletics including Franklin Mieuli, former owner of the Golden State Warriors, Jacque Robinson, MVP of the 1982 Rose Bowl and 1985 Orange Bowl, and Cung Le, UFC fighter and actor. We love to celebrate all our past and present Bulldogs.
Once a Bulldog, ALWAYS a Bulldog!
