School Committees

School Site Council

School Site Councils (SSC) are made up of parents, teachers, students, and administration. The SSC is responsible for recommending the proposed Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) to the District Board of Trustees for approval. The SPSA outlines the school’s educational programs and how those programs work to improve student achievement. It also links school funds and expenses to student needs. The SSC reviews school programs to ensure they meet all federal and state guidelines and studies school data and statistics to help evaluate their effectiveness in raising student achievement. The SSC coordinates with our SELAC to review programs for English Learners, receives reports on the use of Supplemental and Title I funds to support targeted populations, and reviews student achievement data.

Meeting Information

School site council meetings will be held from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Conference Room.

SELAC

The School English Learners Advisory Council (SELAC) and the District English Learners Advisory Council (DELAC) are composed of parents, teachers, students, staff, and administrators whose main concerns are the welfare of students who are English language learners (EL). The SELAC is a school-based committee whose purpose is to provide advice to the principal and staff regarding programs and services for ELs, and the SSC on the development of the SPSA. A representative from each of SJUSD schools' SELAC committees participates in the DELAC. Their role is to advise the district on programs and services for all EL students in SJUSD.

The committee advises and assists the school principal, staff and SSC as follows:
1. The school’s program for English Learners.
2. The development of the SPSA.
3. The school’s needs assessment.
4. The school’s annual language census (R-30 LC Report).
5. Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

The SELAC acts in an advisory capacity. It is not a decision making body, but is the voice of the English Learner community
