Visiting our School
We welcome parents and members of the community to visit our school!
However for safety reasons, state law requires schools to register all guests who enter SJH school property.
Parking
Visitors should park in the visitor lot on Julian St. near the Small Gym or in the back parking lot at the end of Bulldog Blvd. Parking near the Julian St. entrances and at the lot on the corner of 24th and Bulldog Blvd. is reserved for staff only. If you are temporarily parking in the bus circle on 24th at the front of campus, please be sure not to block or park in designated Bus Loading Zones, particularly between 8:00-8:30AM, 11:00AM-12:15PM, and 3:00-3:30PM when busses are frequenting these areas.
Check In
All visitors must check in at the Main Office upon arrival to get a visitor’s and/or parking pass. Unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering or remaining on school grounds and will be asked to leave campus during school hours. If a court-issued restraining order exists which limits a parent’s access to visiting their child or receiving information about their child, the custodial parent must provide the school principal with a copy of such an order. Only persons listed in a student’s record, visible in Infinite Campus, are permitted to pick up the student without specific parental permission. Students will not be released to any other parent, guardian, or other individual unless indicated on Infinite Campus. A valid ID MUST be presented. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Closed Campus
As with all schools in SJUSD, San José High is a closed campus. Students cannot leave campus at any point without permission from a parent or guardian, and must check out in the Attendance Office before leaving campus. Students who need to leave campus and return the same day, should always check out and back in through the Attendance Office. Students should not leave campus and return without permission. This includes students participating in SVCTE classes, without a 7th and/or 8th period class, or participating in any other programs off site.
Observing or Visiting Classes
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, and to limit disruption of instruction, please contact the principal or an administrator to pre-arrange classroom visits. Visitors are expected to observe school rules and engage respectfully with all employees. Parents and guardians may not interact with any children other than their own unless given explicit permission to do so prior to the visit.
Meeting with Staff or Students on Campus
All visitors must have an appointment in advance to meet with anyone on campus. Parents wishing to meet with an administrator, must make an appointment or have obtained prior approval by an administrator for a drop in visit. Visitors entering campus to meet with counselors, teachers, or other staff members must make an appointment and check in at the Main Office. All outside counseling providers must make an appointment with the Main Office before meeting with students. Please contact the Main Office to request any in-person meeting.
The principal or designee may request that any individual who is causing a disruption, including exhibiting volatile, hostile, aggressive, or offensive behavior, immediately leave school grounds.
Outside Food and Deliveries
All food deliveries by Uber Eats, DoorDash, or similar services are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. If a parent wishes to drop off food or other items to their student, please bring it to the Student Services Office for delivery. Deliveries of any kind are not permissible unless provided by a parent or guardian listed on Infinite Campus with a valid ID.
