The International Baccalaureate Programme

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) is offered in partnership with Muwekma Ohlone Middle School and includes grades 6-10. SJH students complete the program in grades 9 and 10.

The San José High IB MYP provides the framework of knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills necessary for the IB Diploma Program. The Middle Years Programme culminates with the Personal Project, a semester-long investigation into a topic of the students’ choosing.

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) is a course of study that allows students to engage in both rigorous IB courses as well as career-ready courses. Students, in their junior or senior year, take at least two IB Diploma courses, a Personal and Professional Skills course, and choose a career pathway (Engineering, Business, Law or Healthcare). Throughout the programme, students will improve their skills in creative and critical thinking, appreciating their own and others’ cultures, organizing and balancing work and life, problem-solving, and communicating with peers and members of the community. All of these skills will make them successful in the pursuit of further education and for our 21st-century workforce.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) for students aged 16 to 19, is a balanced and academically challenging program of education with rigorous assessment. The DP prepares students for success in higher education and encourages them to become active participants in an increasingly global society. The program has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.

The Diploma Program prepares students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they: develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically, acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education, SJHS students study at least two languages and increase understanding of cultures, including their own.
